This week, we’re spotlighting Simon Wong, one of our dedicated Product Managers at Trilitech. From digital marketing to e-commerce and Web3, Simon has embraced opportunities to grow and innovate in his career.

Can you summarise your career before Trilitech?
Before joining Trilitech, I spent six years in digital marketing which provided a solid foundation for understanding consumer behaviour and data-driven decision-making. I felt like I’d hit a ceiling and wanted to explore a more dynamic field where I could focus on building impactful products and work with cross-functional teams.

That realisation led me into a career in product management within e-commerce. Before Trilitech, I worked at ASOS on their website and app products, releasing various features to improve user experiences on the platform. I really enjoyed my time there, and it was instrumental in honing my skills to deliver solutions that matter.

What was your journey into Web3?
My interest in Web3 started back in 2018 when I dabbled in crypto, bought a bit, and even staked it. The more I learned, the more intrigued I became.

I wasn’t actively looking for a new role when Trilitech came onto my radar. Zoë from the Talent team approached me with the opportunity, and it immediately stood out. The chance to work on cutting-edge projects within the Tezos ecosystem was too exciting to pass up.

What does your day-to-day as a Product Manager look like?
No two days are the same, which keeps things exciting. Mornings usually start with regular stand-ups with my squad, where I get a sense of what the developers are working on and the plans moving forward. This collaboration is key to keeping everyone aligned.

Some days, I might be diving into the analytics of a product, understanding where users are dropping off, and formulating plans to improve the flow. On other days, I could be pulling together user stories for the engineering team or leading weekly/fortnightly calls to ensure a project keeps moving.

On most days, I interact with a lot of stakeholders. It’s important for me to keep building those relationships to get things done.

How would you describe your first month at Trilitech, and how is it different today?
My first month was essentially onboarding with a structured programme that introduced me to the right people and provided a solid foundation. It wasn’t overly strenuous; I spent most of my time learning, familiarising myself with online communities, and understanding the blockchain space.

Now, it’s a lot more dynamic. The projects I’m involved in are more hectic but also more exciting. I’ve gained a deeper understanding of blockchain and crypto, which makes conversations with developers more productive and insightful.

What’s your favourite thing about Trilitech?
Definitely the people. Trilitech boasts a team of incredibly smart individuals—many with PhDs—who are always willing to share their knowledge and take the time to explain things. It’s a collaborative and intellectually stimulating environment where everyone contributes to shared goals.

How would you describe the company culture?
The culture here is all about getting stuff done. People are not just smart but also genuinely nice, making it an enjoyable environment to come into every day. There’s a constant stream of work, but it’s balanced by a supportive and encouraging atmosphere.

What’s been your highlight so far?
Adding structure to how the Etherlink team releases features is a standout moment—it was/is a steep learning curve, but I feel proud that I’ve been able to help navigate the team to delivery. It’s been rewarding to see the tangible impact of our work as we released an upgrade to the Etherlink Bridge.

I was also part of the team that launched the world's first blockchain-based decentralised application for uranium trading, Uranium.io. It was a tough deadline, but seeing all the teams pull together and deliver was amazing.

On a personal note, attending an away day organised by Trilitech at Manchester United was a fantastic experience. It was a great opportunity to connect with artists and partners involved in the ecosystem while enjoying the iconic venue.

Any tips for aspiring product managers breaking into the industry?
Get on Twitter as it’s deeply ingrained in blockchain culture and community—really try to understand who the personas are. Focus on execution. The decentralised nature of the business creates blurred lines of communication, so if you can navigate that and apply some structure, you’ll do well.

Finally, build relationships. Part of your role is to get stuff done, and to do that effectively, you need to build relationships with your stakeholders.

Simon’s story is a testament to the exciting opportunities in Web3 for those willing to take the leap. We can’t wait to see what he achieves next at Trilitech!
